Google for Startups Accelerator Opens for SA AI Startups

Google opens applications for African tech accelerator.

Google has opened applications for its latest Google for Startups Accelerator programme, inviting South African startups to apply for the three-month initiative aimed at high-potential, AI-driven ventures. Targeting startups from seed to Series A stage, the hybrid accelerator is designed to support startups using artificial intelligence (AI) to address critical local and regional challenges. 

Key Benefits for Selected Startups

accepted into the programme will benefit from a robust programme support package, including access to Google’s AI tools such as Gemini, mentorship from experienced engineers and AI professionals, and strategic business support. Each selected startup will also receive R1 million in equity-free funding and gain exposure to Google’s global network. 

"South African startups are tackling some of the world's most urgent challenges, and we're committed to supporting their long-term growth. Through the Google for Startups Accelerator programme, we aim to provide these companies with the resources they need to scale and make a greater global impact," said Folarin Aiyegbusi, Head of Startup Ecosystem, Africa at Google.

Eligibility Criteria for South African Startups

To qualify for the accelerator, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be headquartered in South Africa
  • Be between Seed and Series A stage
  • Address a locally relevant problem with potential for scale across Africa and globally
  • Have a clearly defined target market
  • Must have a proven track record of traction and strong growth potential
  • At least one founder must be of South Africa descent
  • Founding team must exhibit relevant experience and strong team dynamics
  • Offer an AI-driven product or solution that is already in market 
  • Be open to leveraging Google products and platforms
