South African digital payments solution company Stitch has rebranded WigWag to [Stitch Express](https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=DChcSEwjr4fOrp-2LAxWkpVAGHZt5BYkYABAAGgJkZw&co=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAoJC-BhCSARIsAPhdfSi1jPSRlaPWGDE3gVErmtNDtmFpYEpVf8y-%5F99b-%5F6JSuHQIYxRHnQaAqD5EALw%5FwcB&sig=AOD64%5F3eJWrtHTSo0O-wkOpz30ocgrHQaA&q&adurl&ved=2ahUKEwjRyO2rp-2LAxWFWUEAHen8FLAQ0Qx6BAgMEAE&ref=startup.africa). The rebrand comes after Stitch introduced WigWag to its list of solutions in September 2023.

[In a statement](https://www.stitch.money/blog/wigwag-rebrands-as-stitch-express-to-serve-e-commerce-businesses?ref=startup.africa), the company says Stitch Express is designed to help e-commerce enabled businesses access online payments through plugins and payment links. In its inception, Stich Express (formerly WigWag) was developed as a digital payments solution for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

“WigWag initially spun out from Stitch as a way for the team to deeply understand how we can better serve merchants of all sizes that wish to accept payments online, while still serving the payment requirements of larger enterprises”, said Stitch.

The rebrand comes amid significant growth in South Africa’s digital payments market which is [projected](https://www.statista.com/outlook/fmo/digital-payments/south-africa?ref=startup.africa#:~:text=Total%20transaction%20value%20in%20the,US%2456.76bn%20by%202029.) to reach $19.9 billion in 2025\.

The total transaction value of the market is expected to show an annual growth rate of 29.86%. This growth rate will lead to a projected total amount of $56.75 billion by 2029.

“E-commerce businesses can get up and running on Stitch Express quickly with a fully digital sign-up process, and get started with simple, easy-to-integrate payments solutions that offer the payment methods demanded by South African consumers,” says the company.

Earlier this year, Stitch [acquired](https://www.stitch.money/blog/stitch-acquires-exipay?ref=startup.africa) Amsterdam-based payments start-up [ExiPay](https://www.stitch.money/blog/stitch-acquires-exipay?ref=startup.africa). The company explained that the acquisition was part of Stitch’s offering for businesses that leverage both online and in-person payment methods.

“We built Stitch Express on top of the Stitch platform to give our customers access to support, high uptime and user-friendly payment flows. We are also working on more solutions which will be able to meet the payment needs of businesses and their customers,” concluded Stitch.
